Etymology:

The generic name is a dedication to Dr. L. F. de Beaufort, at that time affiliated to Zoölogisch Museum, Amsterdam, The Netherlands. 


Size / Weight:

48-65 mm SL, 59-73 mm TL, type series, Phong Thổ and Nam Na streams, Black River (Lixianjiang River) subbasin, Red River basin, Lai Châu Province, Vietnam (Mai, 1978).


Diagnosis:

D II,9; A II,5; P I,25; V I,19; LLS 75-85.

Body depth/SL 19.1 %; head length/SL 21.4 %; eye diameter/head length 22.7 %; interorbital distance/head length 42.7 %.

Body flat, compressed in head area, slender and flat on caudal peduncle. Eye small dorso-laterally placed; interorbital distance large. Small nostril, near eye, far from snout. Snout obtusely rounded. Mouth subtermninal, circular, four maxillary barbels in a row and one pair of mandibular barbels at comer of mouth, scales cycloid, lateral line complete, body not scaled between and under pectoral fins.

Dorsal fin small, without spiny rays, dorsal fin origin behind pelvic fin insertion and in middle of distance from snout to caudal fin base; pectoral fins well developed and laterally expanded, pelvic fin continuous, posterior edge notched; anal fin small and reaching to caudal-fin base, anus behind posterior margin of pelvic fin, caudal fin obliquely emarginate.

Coloartion: Body dark grey, daker on top, paler on belly, white spots around mouth (Mai, 1978, original description).

Distribution:

Tributaries within the Black River subbasin, Red River basin, in Yunnan Province, China, and Lai Châu Province, Vietnam; in riffles with moderate to fast flowing water over rocky substratum.

IUCN Red List not evaluated.
